Of the four health plans active in the State of Israel, Maccabi Health Services is the second largest, and close to 2.5 million residents of the State of Israel are located under it. In order to understand who Maccabi Health Services is and what services it offers, we have prepared the following article with all the relevant information that is important for you to know, just before you, perhaps, join it as an insured.
Where did Maccabi Health Services start
Maccabi Health Services, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary, was founded in 1940. It began its journey as an association that belongs to the "Maccabi Israel" movement. The movement expressed a unique and free worldview, and in those days it was intended for registration only for members of the Maccabi movement.
Over the years and the development of the health plan, a different position was expressed on the part of the health plan, which became independent in all respects, and allowed the free membership of policyholders who wish to be covered by it.
The Growth of Maccabi Health Services
In the beginning, Maccabi Health Services operated branches only in the central regions. Cities such as Kfar Shmaryahu, Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv, Bat Yam, Jaffa and Holon benefited from nearby and available branches that included various medical services – both basic and advanced. In 1977, the CEO of the health fund was replaced, and then Maccabi Health Services began to expand its activities to additional branches spread throughout the country, and various services such as Doctor to Maccabi Home .
Slowly but surely, Maccabi Health Services has established itself as a large, stable and advanced health fund. From 1990 to 1995, Maccabi Health Services significantly increased its activity, reaching an almost imaginary number of one million policyholders in a short time. As part of these years, in 1994 the Maccabi Health Services Health Fund bought the Assuta Hospital. At Assuta Hospital, about one-eighth of the surgeries in the country are performed.
A fund you can trust
Over the years, Maccabi Health Services has taken significant steps on the way to growth, providing exemplary medical service and providing an immediate and advanced response as much as possible. In terms of medical service, Maccabi Health Services has realized that in order to remain part of the game, it needs to offer more advanced medical insurance services than the services included in the National Health Insurance Law, which is provided to every resident of the State of Israel, and includes the services of the Israeli health basket.
Therefore, Maccabi Health Fund offers three other types of advanced insurance that members of the health plan can purchase and enjoy advanced medical services: Maccabi Silver – the basic insurance plan, Maccabi Gold – the advanced insurance plan, and Maccabi Sheli – the most general and comprehensive insurance plan of the three.
Maccabi's other activity
Maccabi Health Services operates in other areas besides being a health fund only. Maccabi Pharm, for example, is a chain of pharmacies that belongs to the Maccabi Health Services Health Fund, and has close to 100 branches throughout the country. Maccabident, also part of the Maccabi Health Services Health Fund, is a chain of dental clinics where members of other health plans can also come for treatment.
Maccabi Care is a boutique brand that offers various health products sold in the Maccabi Pharm pharmacy chain, and Maccabi Natural is a chain of clinics that offers complementary alternative medicine treatments from the health plan. Other projects of the HMO are Maccabi at First Sight, Assuta Medical Centers, Bayit Balev, Beiti, Maccabi Foundation and Maccabi Shefa.
